New Husband Wants to Know How to Get His Sloppy Wife to Clean House

Dear Bloggy,

I just got married several months ago to the mother of my first child. We didn't live together prior to marriage and now I'm finding she has no domestic skills and no desire to learn any. After working all day, I do the cooking and cleaning. She does take care of our son, but he's 3 and I do think she could run a household at the same time. Is it no longer fashionable for women to learn how to manage a home? My mom was a stay-at-home mother who was an amazingly efficient house manager.... so maybe this is coloring my expectations.

Anyway, what is the best way to ask my wife to start pulling her weight without ruining the marriage,

College Student not Bonding Well with Roommate

Dear Bloggy,

My college roommate is stressing me out. I thought I could endure staying with her until the end of freshman year, but now that we’re back from holiday break, I don’t see how I can stay until the end of this month! We are not connecting at all. She plays music when I’m studying. She doesn’t like my friends to come over. She freaks out if I use anything of hers.

She wants to keep everything separate in our room. For example, I bought a floor rug, then she bought her own rug. I have a loft, and she found a way to squeeze another loft in here. We have two of everything and never share. We’re not friends, we’re not family and I’m tired of living with a hostile, detached stranger who doesn’t even say “hi” to me when she walks in from classes. I was close to my brothers and sisters at home, but it’s clear I’m going to be on my own here.

P.S. She is from another race, so maybe that has something to do with it.

Friend worries girl could get in over her head with drugs and sex

Dear Bloggy,

I’m a sophomore in high school and my best friend – who is also a sophomore—has been going to parties with college guys and sometimes she stays the night in their dorms, but tells her parents she’s with me. (I’m sure they are not sleeping!). I’m really worried about her and fear she might be using marijuana and other drugs, also. I’m scared to tell her parents or our guidance counselor because I don’t want her to think I’m a snitch. Help!

I’ve been working for the same company almost 6 years. I enjoy my job but I feel isolated at work. My coworkers are constantly trying to blame me for mistakes made by other departments. The people in my department area always going out for lunch or ordering in without inviting me or asking if I want to order anything. Even my boss isolates me by taking everyone in our department out to lunch without asking me or when she knows I have plans. I can’t afford to quit and I just don’t know what to do about the situation.

Dealing with workplace stress is bad under normal circumstances. With the economy and job market being so bad, quitting any job without a backup is never a good idea. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t leave your job once you find a new one.

If your coworkers and boss have been isolating you for years, it might be time to start looking for a new place of employment. Start working on your resume and begin discretely applying to other jobs that will pay as much, or more, than your current job. I know you mentioned you love your job, but if the behavior of your fellow workers is causing you distress it might be time for a change. Remember, your new job might have work conditions or coworkers that are no different than the ones you are currently dealing with.

Saving A Draft
